THINKING ABOUT:
This phrase, “Love is like air” has shown up in my life twice, once in a guided meditation from a friend and once in the script of the sci-fi show Resident Alien.
What does it mean to me? That if we look for it, see it, ask for it, take it in, then love is everywhere. It’s all around us. It’s as natural as breathing. As we move into this new year, I have vowed to focus on love, not fear. Openness, not anger. I want to help make my neighborhood a warmer, more welcoming place to live. I want to find a place to volunteer. I want to try a meditation class. I want to remember that love is like air, every day.
This beautiful story from the Washington Post, about an iconic, mysterious breakfast on the mall, is the perfect example of love and friendship. (Gift link)

WATCHING:
Take four minutes to watch this gorgeous, passionate music video for Hozier’s Work Song.
READING:
I took a culinary trip with Padma Lakshmi over the holiday break, reading her luscious memoir Loss, Love, and What We Ate. Lakshmi—a beautiful food writer—takes us on a tour of her life, from growing up an immigrant kid here in the U.S. to being sent back to India to live when her single mother was struggling. She brings us to Europe for the start of her modeling career, shares pain and heartbreak of loving three very different, strongly opinionated men, and goes behind the scenes of Top Chef where we learn how it felt from her perspective to be hosting a top food show when she didn’t initially know much about the type of food being judged. She sprinkles in some favorite, significant recipes along the way.
EATING:
One of the most intriguing recipes was Lakshmi’s yogurt rice, her go-to comfort food, which I plan to try soon.
